Skiing and snowboarding around Innsbruck.
The pistes are amazing and attract tourists and locals alike. For those of you who simply can’t get enough there is even the possibility to ski at night. I’m pretty sure some resorts have already been advertised to you but there are definitely more to explore.
An overview of all resorts can be found here.
3 of our favourites are the Nordkette, Axamer Lizum and Kühtai:

The Nordkette
is very popular as it provides stunning views of our glorious city and is incredibly easy to reach. A cable car departing from the city centre brings you all the way up – you don’t even need a bus or car to reach it.
As a bonus you cross the Inn via the iconic bridge and architectural masterpiece designed by Zaha Hadid, the Hungerburgbahnbrücke.

After a short ride you are greeted with an incredible view, an amazing snowpark and a great location to party. As you won’t need to drive home yourself it is an ideal location to aprés-ski.
The vicinity of the location also attracts quite a few students who come to the conclusion that their leisure is more important than their lecture.
The Axamer Lizum
is only 30 min away by car or about 50 min away using the free ski bus. It has pistes in every direction so if the sun is out you will always be able to avoid the shade.
Slopes in all difficulties and plenty of places to take a break make it a great family resort. Besides the slopes it also offers the Golden Roof Park, a snowpark with kickers ranging from small one’s for beginners to huge one’s for the very, very experienced.
The Golden Roof Park is also the most popular park amongst the photographers of Got-it. They often come to the park and take professional pictures of the riders trying their tricks. Afterwards the pictures will be available for free.
Should you be lucky enough to be there with them and nail that trick you always wanted you can also have your picture turned into a poster. The prices are very reasonable and the results look stunning. For more details check out the Got-It Instagram feed. The Got-It crew can also frequently be found in our next location, the Kühtai.
Another highlight at the Axamer Lizum is the Ugly Skiing Day. It’s the probably highest bad taste party in the world and best way to end your ski season.
Kühtai
which translates to valley of cows, is about 45 minutes away by car. In the summer it is a great location for motorbiking and you very frequently encounter the before-mentioned cows.
In the winter Kühtai is one of the best resorts to free ride and to get your fair share of powder. Its location allows you to access a lot of free-ride areas by lift and enjoy the powder without the fear of causing an avalanche.
Besides that the Kühtai also offers the possibility of night skiing. The pistes light up every Wednesday and Saturday from 7.30pm to 10.00pm. As most location they offer a free ski bus which is also available for night skiing. Another thing Kühtai offers for free is night cross-country skiing.
In addition to the above they also have a snowpark and offer great accommodations for those of you who wish to stay longer. An accommodation-highlight is their Igloo-Village right next to the slopes.
